Art Vs Survival – The Right Balance

Art is a field that requires a lot of creativity and innovation. In such a scenario, it is very easy to lose sight of basic necessities needed to survive. An artist may not think twice about skipping a meal just because he or she is in the right mood. On the other hand, skipping multiple meals is obviously not going to work.

Artists hate the idea of working only for money and do a very poor job at it. The end result is that these people earn far less than what they deserve. This leads to frustration which in turn creates a vicious cycle ultimately affecting the creativity of the individual. It is a must to be pragmatic about the issue. Not being in a position where you can survive is only going to affect your art negatively.

Conducting art classes and helping people paint on fur fabrics may not be an appealing prospect but it may help you earn sufficient funds to survive in a reasonable manner. Relying on your friends or relatives to help you out can be a very embarrassing experience. On the other hand, waiting for the big one to bail you out may not work if the big one takes a very long time to materialize.

The smartest option is to strike the right balance and use your art skills to help people and earn some money. You can devote the remaining time to your field and then try to become the best artist possible. You will required to do this until you become popular as an artist and manage to earn enough to survive.
